Mission Statement

The mission of the Lafayette County Literacy Council (LCLC) is to improve literacy and encourage the love of reading in Oxford and Lafayette County. An educated citizenry is essential to the social, economic, and cultural quality of life in a community. Because an individual’s ability to read is the foundation of all education, the LCLC provides programs for learners of all ages.

  • Believing that literacy begins at home, the LCLC gives parents the tools required to nurture the education of their children.
  • Believing that literacy begins at home, the LCLC gives parents the tools required to nurture the education of their children.
  • Believing that the problems associated with illiteracy affect everyone, the LCLC asks all citizens to contribute to solutions through volunteerism and financial support.

The YYLC (Yoknapatawpha Youth Literacy Council) is the new group formed by concerned Oxford High School students who want to help raise money and increase literacy in our surrounding area. Their goals include a tutoring lab, fund raiser events and bolstering up the efforts of the Lafayette County Literacy Council. For more information please email yylc@oxfordreads.org.
